Preparing your team for a retention briefing

Team preparing printed briefing materials at a bright meeting table

A retention briefing works when the room arrives with shared facts and open questions. It stalls when each function brings a different definition of ‘active’ or ‘churned’.

Ask finance, care, and product to agree in advance on the status labels you will use in the meeting. Bring one page of recent cancellation themes in the customers’ own words. Leave acquisition campaign charts for a separate hour.

Invite people who can change something after the meeting — plan rules, care scripts, fulfilment SLAs — not only people who report numbers. Cap the room so discussion stays possible.

End with three named experiments and owners. A briefing without owners becomes a polite archive. A briefing with owners becomes part of how the brand listens to its renewing customers.
